First Impressions

This is my Blog Carnival Submission for SilverNeurotic's 25th Birthday Blog Celebration!

NOTE: This is not my real blog - for some reason Xanga would not let me post this. So if you like what you see stop by my real blog: www.xanga.com/tinydancer1503

The first week of college was a huge adjustment for me. In the past, I never left home for any extended period of time. I also never had a roommate (except for my sister when I was a baby). So when it was time to move-in to my dorm room I was really apprehensive. When I arrived my roommate was at a field hockey game. So after my parents left, I was on my own to find friends. I went across the hall and met a few girls. Later that night I met up with a girl, who I was "set up with" by a woman I worked with that summer (When she heard I was going to Stockton she gave me her friend's daughter's phone number). We decided to go to Casino Night at the college. While we were there, I found another friend, a girl I met at orientation. For the next week or so, we would hangout and go to parties. Her boyfriend also went to the college so we would visit with him and his friends when we went his dorm.

That is around the time when I met Tim.

In the beginning we barely talked. I was intimidated by him. I heard him talk to other guys about the music he liked (which was hard rock). I didn't listen to hard rock, nor did I know much about it. He also had long hair and a beard - so I thought he must party, drink, and smoke a lot. At that point I didn't see him as a person I could date, although I did think he was cute :). Then, during the second week of school a friend from my dorm asked me to go to a soccer game. It was a lot of fun, we were able to talk and figured out we had some things in common (she ended up being my roommate the next year). It was also a perfect night, it was a little chilly and it was finally beginning of feel like fall. After the game we decided to go over to Tim's dorm for a party...

Now let me preface this, before college I had little to no drinking experience...

In about 30 minutes after arriving at the party I had 5 shots of rum. Yes, Tim poured them for me (the girls he knew had a high tolerance). Plus he had never drank before so he didn't fully understand alcohol's effects (so much for the party boy image I had). Well, then things got interesting. At one point I went into the lounge where Tim was lying on the couch and I took a water bottle and poured it over his face. A little later I went to the bathroom and when I came out I hit my head on the stall door. As a result, I start crying because my head hurt a lot and probably because I was drunk. Tim came to my rescue and asked if there was anything he could do to help. He lent me his cellphone so I could call my friend Cass. Not a good idea. As soon as she got on the phone I just started crying and talking about how I was hurt. She thought I was just raped or something. Tim heard me talking to her so he took back the phone and assured her that I was safe and he would take care of me. When he handed back the phone Cass said that she knew he'd take care of me. After that I would not get up from the bed we were sitting on (not his bed). And that is where we stayed the rest of the night. Tim would not leave my side, he was so racked with guilt and didn't want anything bad to happen to me. He told me later that he didn't sleep the entire night he was so worried. I also didn't want anyone else to take care of me, Tim made me feel safe. The next morning I woke up in a haze, but happy. We cuddled for a while before we finally got up. While this is not my finest moment it did introduce me to Tim, the love of my life.

Well, that is the story of how Tim and I first met. Although that first week of college was crazy I wouldn't mind living it over again. I never dreamed things would work out as well as they did. Even from the beginning Tim supported me, took care of me, and everyone around me reassured me what an amazing guy he was (and still is!). About a year later Tim also told me that night while he was taking care of me, he thought to himself: "I could love this girl". And love he did, we have been dating almost four years and we are happier than ever!
